
Professor Dellaportas began his professional career as a taxation accountant before he moved to the university sector teaching students and practising professionals the principles and practice of financial and managerial accounting.
Professor Dellaportas has held academic positions at La Trobe University, Deakin University and Federation University Australia. He has a strong reputation as a teacher, receiving awards for excellence in teaching and postgraduate supervision.
Professor Dellaportas is an internationally recognised scholar; he is the recipient of research grants in excess of $200,000 and has presented his research findings at conferences around the world. A central focus that underlies much of his research is focused on professional ethics in accounting. His work is known for understanding professionalism and personal accountability in a professional setting.
He is the author of over 60 publications, comprising refereed journal articles, conference papers, research monographs and two textbooks. He is currently Accounting Section Editor for the Journal of Business Ethics and Associate Editor of Accounting Education an international journal.
He also serves on the editorial boards of: Accounting Auditing & Accountability Journal; Managerial Auditing Journal; Asian Review of Accounting, Meditari Accountancy Research, Asian Journal of Finance & Accounting; and New Accountant: international edition.
Professor Dellaportas is actively involved in the profession. He was a subject specialist for the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ). With CPA Australia, he was co-author and chief examiner in CPA Australia’s professional development program; a member of the Professional Standards Committee; Chaired the Victorian Universities Committee; and represented CPA Australia in a joint taskforce that revised the Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants in 2006.
